Greek Wine Portal (GWP)

I am happy to see that more and more people are promoting the Greek wines through blogs and wine sites. It is really vital for the Greek wine industry not only to produce great wines but also to promote them…The last ten years I have tasted a lot of high quality wines that could be out there…Saddly the Greek wineries marketing plan is poor.Individuals try and do a great piece of work by taking over the marketing and reaching markets that are new to the Greek wines with success.

There is no actual education in the foreign markets about our wines. We do have a quality product but no one seems to know about it.By tracking most of the international wine competitions I see more and more Greek wines get nominated or getting high scores. It is a matter of how you make someone need your product…

The Greek Wine Portal is all about that.Every month there is a winery presentation ,where the wines are tasted are rated.Interviews from the wine producers and other section are covered.

The top wine magazines are slowly seeing that Greece has something to offer…Robert Parker has given more than a few 90+ ratings to several Greek wines.Wine & Spirits magazine includes more than 3 wineries each year in their TOP 100 wineries of the world.Decanter World wine awards always gives away gold medals to Greek wines ( See the results of the 2010 competition on GWP).

The future is open to the Greek wines but we really need to work hard on promoting them.

  1. Για σας!
I am an wine lover from America who went to live in Kriti for one year and fell in love with Greek wines, food, culture, etc.
I have formal education in wine from the WSET, and have volunteered for wine educators at various embassy events here in the US.
This post is so apropos, I have become so frustrated that so many of the good Greek wines do not have a presence here in the United States. We have a relatively large Greek diaspora here, and I don’t understand why we’re not trying harder to promote Greek wines.
My hope is to return to Greece again to learn more about the wine industry there, and perhaps to be able to find a way to let American consumers know about the wonderful, high-quality wines available from Greece!

  2. Please inform me about the availability of Greek wine guides, preferably in English,
    Thank you in advance,
